Jeff Wall
This image was taken in 1982 and it explores contemporary social issues. The man photographed on the left is going about his daily life, but is frustrated, trying to ignore the racially aggravated actions of the man just off the centre to the right. The second man is mocking the Asian man as he is seen squinting his eyes and has his medius finger raised. This highly offensive but subtle communication in the image can easily be missed but it powerfully captures racist attitudes in the 1980's and unfortunately actions like this still occur today. The woman seems to be disgusted by her partners actions but is still holding his hand, conveying her fear and possible lack of confidence as women were also marginalised in society at the time. Personally, I like this photograph because of this strong message that it illustrates. The clothes that they are wearing and the types of cars in the background give us explicit information to lead us to conclude that the picture was taken in 1980's America. A triangle has been formed between the three individuals adding balance to the picture and the road and the shadows create strong leading lines drawing the eye into the image.
Jimmay Bones
Jimmay Bones uses blurring techniques to produce abstract photographs that capture isolation in urban settings. This creates interesting images as there is a strong contrast between urban life and being in solitary as an urban lifestyle is generally crowded, busy and hectic. This idea is juxtaposed by the atmosphere of isolation he creates.
